ABOUT US
In 2001, we - Saskia (’61) and Martijn (’58) Zandvliet-Breteler- decided to leave the hectic life in the Netherlands and together with our three children  settled down in a former Cistercian Abbey in the Creuse, France.

At our own pace we are building our new ideal: l’Abbaye du Palais.

In an appealing historic complex on a 5,5 ha domain, we rent out some gîtes; we accommodate guests in the chambers d’hôtes and invite them for dinner at the table d’hôtes in the evening.

How we run things? Small scale, with a casual, personal and warm atmosphere.

l’Abbaye du Palais is located in the Creuse department, Limousin, France. The Creuse is, even to the French themselves, the most unfamiliar region in France. There is no industry, only nature. The region is very sparsely populated.

The people here live at a slower pace. There is no competition with the neighbours or colleagues about cars, houses, luxury holidays, salaries, bonuses and so on. People respect each other’s privacy. A good meal with good conversation is valued highly and people take the time for that.
