SABBATICAL STAYS

arrangements

In cooperation with the Slow Life Foundation we offer a new form of accommodation: the sabbatical stay.

Slowlife
The aim of the Slow life Foundation is to apply counter pressure to the hectic life at home. An existence that increasingly leads to burn-outs. Even our food chain seems to go in that direction with mad cow disease, dioxin chickens, swine plague, etc. Slow Life wants to stimulate people to step down before they have a burn-out. The Slow Life foundation aims at applying counter pressure by promoting sabbatical leave, in other words a long-term break. The foundation considers sabbatical leave a perfect instrument to lead a slower life for some time in order to prevent a burn-out.

Preparation for such leave requires a lot of time. To save time to those who wish to make use of sabbatical leaves in the future, the foundation is gathering information on questions, obstacles and experiences in order to create a data bank. They want to create a rich source of knowledge from which those wishing to go on sabbatical leave can take information and inspiration to actually take a sabbatical leave.

For whom?
Sabbatical stays are meant for those people who wish to break away, for a longer or shorter period, from the hectic and stressful life at home. To slow down, to be able to set your own pace. To create time and a desire to do all those things that you just did not seem to get around to doing any more. To take time to reflect on the next step in your life. Or to just to take a long period of rest and relax completey Or, may be, to exchange the continuous strain of mental exertion for relaxing, physical labour.
With whom?

The owners of l’Abbeye du Palais decided in 2001 to say farewell to the rat race in the Netherlands and to settle down, together with their 3 children, in a ‘slow life’ environment. At their own pace they are now building to complete their new ideal:     L‘Abbeye du Palais.

In an alluring historic complex on a 5,5 ha domain, they rent out some gîtes, accommodate guests in the chambres d’hôtes and in the evening they invite them to dine at the tables d’hôtes. The idea? Small scale accommodation with a casual, personal and warm atmosphere.
Where?
l’Abbaye du Palais is located in the Creuse department, Limousin, France. The Creuse is, even for the French themselves, the most unfamiliar region in France. There is no industry, only nature. The region is very sparsely populated.

The people here live at a slower pace. There is no competition with the neighbours or colleagues about cars, houses, luxury holidays, salaries, bonuses and so on. People respect each other’s privacy. A good meal with good conversation is valued highly and people take the time to enjoy this.

When?
In order to keep the rates for such stays attractive, we offer the Slow Life arrangements in the months of September-March, holidays excluded. In discussion with us, we can, under certain conditions, deviate from these dates. The weeks run from Saturday to Saturday. Click here to check out our arrangements.
